Solutions for Harsh Environments
Custom, high-performance solenoids and valves engineered for the most extreme conditions.
Operating in Complex Environments
Many industries demand reliable solutions that stand up to harsh operating conditions and meet stringent performance demands. Applications in a wide variety of industries, such as manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation, and heavy equipment, must contend with severe environments and operating conditions, including extreme temperatures that can range from near-cryogenic to furnace-like. Meeting these challenges requires solenoids and valves that are specifically engineered to maintain reliable operation where conventional solutions fail.
- Vibration
- Mechanical stress and shock
- Corrosive or explosive conditions
- High pressure
- Extreme heat and cold
- High humidity

Technology in Action
See how TLX has engineered solutions to meet some of the most challenging conditions across a wide range of industries.
Designing for Water and Debris
TLX’s Coolant Control Valve was designed for SCR systems in off-road logging vehicles. Two versions of the valve were developed: one with an IP65 rating, making it dust tight and water resistant, and one with an IP67 rating, making it fully submersible to one meter for thirty minutes. The valve was also designed with a custom diverter to route debris contamination in the coolant away from critical internal valve components, ensuring reliable operation in even the worst conditions.
Designing for Hazardous Environments
TLX’s Explosion Proof Actuator with Supervision is UL HazLoc, ATEX, and IECEx certified for use in hazardous gas environments. Its enclosure components and flame paths are corrosion-resistant and produced from passivated 304 stainless steel, with no brass, bronze, or copper for any exterior components. All potential flame paths are also designed to prevent flame egress if a spark were to ignite any flammable gas found within the actuator.
Designing for Safety
TLX’s Intrinsically Safe Latching Solenoid was designed for a heavy-duty paint sprayer. If the paint reservoir ran out of paint, the fluid pump that delivered paint to the spray gun could overspeed and suffer damage. At the beginning of an overspeed condition, the solenoid’s plunger extended to stop the pump. Because atomized paint is flammable, the solenoid was designed to be intrinsically safe, with energy-limiting circuitry that kept electrical output below the ignition threshold.
