A Solenoid for Protecting High Voltage Power Distribution Equipment
Customer Problem
A manufacturer of power distribution equipment needed a solution to actuate a fault interrupter while switching functions in their high voltage equipment. The fault interrupter would disconnect power so that maintenance could be performed or if a fault could not be cleared immediately. The manufacturer needed a durable solution that could suit different applications with a high latching force and a fast response time.
The TLX Solution
TLX designed a latching solenoid with a response time of less than 30 milliseconds that used residual magnetism to latch the armature. The solenoid was available in three sizes, with latching forces between 445 N and 1334 N. If the system detected a fault, or if maintenance was needed, a short pulse of current de-latched the solenoid to activate the fault interrupter. Once the fault was cleared or maintenance was complete, a pulse of the opposite polarity latched the solenoid.
