A Fast, Accurate Valve for Packaging Equipment
Customer Problem
Consumer product packaging equipment uses pneumatic valves to apply adhesives for sealing packages, such as gluing flaps closed on cereal boxes. A manufacturer was having reliability issues with their current valves, resulting in increased maintenance costs and unscheduled downtime. The manufacturer needed a solution that would be reliable under high operating temperatures, consistently deliver the same shot size (amount of adhesive per cycle), and have a long service life.
The TLX Solution
TLX Technologies developed a dispensing valve with a solenoid that had a response time of less than two milliseconds and could continually operate in temperatures as high as 210°C. To achieve this speed, TLX’s engineers increased the solenoid’s force, shortened its stroke, and incorporated magnets into their design. Because the solenoid’s response time was so fast, the valve was able to consistently deliver an accurate shot size.
