Designing a Flexible Valve Concept
Customer Problem
Thermal management systems for mobility applications have grown increasingly complex. EV architectures have multiple cooling loops with varying thermal demands, and ICE vehicles are increasingly using electronically controlled coolant valves to meet their more complex cooling needs. TLX began receiving requests for different valves that shared many similarities. However, developing a new valve concept for each variation would increase the customer’s development costs and project risk.
The TLX Solution
TLX developed a modular valve product family to give OEMs and system suppliers a solution that works across multiple vehicle platforms. Design teams can specify variations on the same basic valve design by choosing the port size and communication protocol that best suits their application without changing the valve body, flow paths, or diverter. This means that prior durability and performance testing can be leveraged for each new valve variation.
