Controlling Hydraulic Pressure in an Off-Highway Application

TLX developed two electromechanical solutions that produced more force in a smaller package size than existing solutions.

Customer Problem

A manufacturer needed a solution to provide proportional actuation for an electro-hydraulic control valve in an off-highway application. In order to handle pressure requirements and meet space constraints, the manufacturer needed a solution that could produce 25% more force than currently available options, but in a smaller package. To ensure sufficient controllability, the solution also needed to provide low hysteresis and good linearity throughout the specified pressure range.

The TLX Solution

TLX Technologies produced two solutions for the manufacturer. The first was a proportional solenoid actuator to control the existing hydraulic valve. As the application’s requirements evolved, TLX also developed a two-way proportional pressure reducing/relieving valve to replace the existing valve-actuator configuration. Both solutions met the manufacturer’s package size and pressure handling requirements, with a pressure hysteresis of less than 5% and a nominal linearity of less than 2%.
