Compact, Battery-Powered Solenoids

A manufacturer required a compact solenoid actuator to operate a low pressure gas valve in an outdoor patio heater. A custom open frame latching solenoid provided the compact design while using almost no power, making it ideally suited for battery operation.

Outdoor Heater

Customer Problem

A manufacturer required a compact solenoid actuator to operate a low pressure gas valve in an outdoor patio heater. The solenoid needed to be capable of holding the valve open for extended periods of time, while powered solely by a battery.

The TLX Solution

A custom open frame latching solenoid provided the compact design while using almost no power, making it ideally suited for battery operation. A small 25-50 ms pulse quickly moved the solenoid to the latched position. A permanent magnet held the solenoid until it received another low-energy pulse of the opposite polarity.
