A Solenoid Lock for a Hotel Mini Bar Fridge

TLX combined a latching solenoid and a unique lever-action system to produce a strong, low-profile lock.

Customer Problem

A manufacturer of mini bar fridges needed a locking mechanism for securing a small drinks fridge for hotel rooms. The manufacturer needed a solution that could be monitored from the front desk, drew no current to maintain a locked or an unlocked status, and was no more than 40 mm tall. I also needed to resist up to 100 kg of force to prevent hotel guests or employees from forcing the fridge open.
 

The TLX Solution

TLX Technologies developed a low-profile latching solenoid lock for the customer, which used only a short pulse of current to actuate the lock and drew no current to maintain a locked or an unlocked status. TLX wedded a latching solenoid to a unique lever-action system that actuated a strong security pin and kept the lock’s profile under 40 mm. The pin included supervisory feedback so that the lock’s status could be monitored from the front desk.
