A Diaphragm Solenoid Valve That Used Water Pressure to Actuate
TLX Technologies used latching technology to design a battery-powered valve for a smart water meter.
Customer Problem
A manufacturer needed a valve to control the flow of water through their smart water meters, but they were having trouble finding a solution that matched all of their requirements. They needed an extremely low-voltage pilot valve that could operate in a wide range of temperatures and handle high mechanical shock loads without changing state. Because the valve would handle drinking water, it also needed to be NSF certified.
The TLX Solution
TLX Technologies designed a battery-powered diaphragm latching solenoid valve. This valve used a small solenoid with a comparatively high latching force to open and close an orifice in the diaphragm. This changed the pressure on either side of the diaphragm, allowing water pressure to open and close the main valve rather than the solenoid. The valve was designed to meet the requirements for NSF certification.
