Design Engineer

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer supports product, manufacturing, and application engineering programs from concept through production launch. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to grow hands-on mechanical design skills in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand customer technical requirements and deliver effective, manufacturable design solutions
  • Create and modify designs, models, and drawings using CAD software
  • Analyze engineering sketches, specifications, and data to determine design factors and tolerances
  • Design parts and assemblies with manufacturability, cost, and quality in mind
  • Participate in design reviews and document lessons learned
  • Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and transition to production
  • Maintain and control engineering documentation (drawings, models, change records)
  • Utilize TLX engineering tools and processes including Phase/Gate, ECOs, FMEA, DFM, stack-ups, DVP&R, PPAP, and Process Validation
  • Collaborate with Sales by providing technical input for customer presentations
  • Interface with internal teams, customers, and suppliers
  • Support supplier coordination for prototype builds and design changes

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of metals, plastics, coatings, finishes, and hardware
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, injection molding, welding, and milling
  • Ability to support customer meetings and communicate technical concepts clearly
  • Experience working with suppliers related to prototype builds
  • Understanding of how design decisions impact Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)
  • Ability to participate in root cause analysis and quality activities

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)or equivalent relevant experience
  • 2–3 years of design engineering experience
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software
  • Strong Excel skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, DOE, and AIAG procedures preferred
  • Familiarity with magnetic modeling concepts or simulations used in electromechanical product design
