PWM and Emissions Control
Customer Problem
A motor vehicle manufacturer needed a valve for an EVAP system that would reduce the impact of vacuum purge on their smaller displacement engines to prevent the air/fuel mixture from being too rich at idle, which negatively impacts emissions. The valve needed to deliver proportional flow control and withstand the stresses of a vehicle-mounted component, such as vibration and exposure to moisture and debris.
The TLX Solution
TLX Technologies designed and produced a fully encapsulated solenoid valve that uses pulse width modulation (PWM) operating at 32 Hz to proportionally regulate vacuum purge flow and prevent the mixture from being too rich. The valve withstands vibrations as high as 20 G and resists contamination from debris and moisture. The design can be customized for lower operating frequencies if desired.
