Proportional Flow Control Using Discrete Valve Positions

A valve with low power consumption for applications that need higher flow rates.

Customer Problem

Many liquid-cooling thermal systems have to manage heat from multiple sources simultaneously, which often have differing heating and cooling requirements. These systems usually rely on electrically actuated proportional valves to control the flow of coolant. OEMs and system suppliers are discovering that many proportional flow control valves lack the ideal combination of attributes for their unique applications, including high flow rates in a small package size with minimal power consumption.

The TLX Solution

TLX developed the High-Flow Discrete Proportional Valve (HDPV). This two-way pilot valve delivers proportional flow control with up to four predefined, discrete positions and draws no current to maintain state. The piloted design allows small actuators to control large orifice areas. This results in a relatively small package size that can regulate high flow rates at pressures up to 60 psi while consuming less energy than many competing designs.
