Solenoids for use in Hazardous Locations

A manufacturer wanted its heavy-duty fluid sprayers to automatically stop pumping when they lost fluid. The solution needed to take precautions against fire and explosion.

Hazardous Locations

Customer Problem

When a pump in a fluid handling system loses liquid, it can overspeed. The resulting damage can greatly reduce the life of the pump. A manufacturer wanted to eliminate this issue in their heavy-duty fluid sprayers by automatically stopping the pump when it lost fluid. Since the sprayer could be used in hazardous locations, the solution needed to take precautions against fire and explosion.

The TLX Solution

TLX Technologies created an intrinsically safe high-speed latching solenoid. When the solenoid’s electronic controls sense the pump is about to enter an overspeed condition, the solenoid plunger will immediately extend, stopping the pump so that no damage can occur. The solenoid’s circuitry is protected, making it safe for use in hazardous conditions.
