High Speed Dispensing Valve

A manufacturer was experiencing problems with seals on pneumatic valves installed in equipment they sold for use in consumer product packaging lines. The valves were used to apply adhesives (both hot and cold melt) to products such as boxes for cans of soda, etc. Due to the problems they were experiencing with the pneumatic valves, the manufacturer was incurring additional cost for maintenance in the field in addition to their customers experiencing downtime for that maintenance.  The manufacturer sought a solution that would consistently operate at high temperatures while offering precise control at very high speeds and have a long cycle life to reduce the need for field maintenance and downtime.

Considering the requirements, TLX determined that the best solution for the application was a high speed/high temperature solenoid valve which would offer the customer the fast response they desired while maintaining accurate shot size for high repeatability in the packaging equipment. While solenoids are often utilized for their fast response time, low power consumption and cost effectiveness, some unique applications require a faster response than a standard solenoid.  In order to increase the response time, both force and stroke need to be considered.  To increase the solenoid’s response time, force in the form of power needs to be increased while the solenoid’s stroke needs to be shortened. TLX successfully addressed the manufacturer’s unique requirements utilizing our patented, distinctive solenoid magnetics which allows for response times to .2 milliseconds while maintaining a change in response that is consistently less than 1.1% over the cycle life duration.  In addition, TLX’s patented technology allowed the solenoid valve to continuously operate in temperatures to 480˚F.
